It is not currently clear what policy issues the .UK RAC will look at during it’s first year (2021). The first draft meeting agenda only has “Standing items e.g. refreshing/reviewing existing policies” on it. However we were told in March by Nominet:
The group will also help shape the RAC’s initial agenda, which is likely to include a review of expired domains policy and approach to future pricing recommendations. This agenda would then be handed over for consideration to the newly-elected Registry Advisory Council members.Registry Advisory Council – working group announced – 9th March 2021
In recent years Nominet has made policy changes following public consultations only:
- The 2019 policy consultation resulted in law enforcement landing pages and a change of registrar agreement.
- The 2020 policy consultation resulted in expired auctions being scrapped but drops list yet to be implemented.
In future these policies would be looked at by the .UK RAC and it’s members would provide valuable non-binding advice to the board.
